CPD - Accreditation Information

Lawyers and paralegals who have been practising or providing legal services for more than 2 years must complete in each calendar year at least 12 hours of eligible Continuing Professional Development activities.

Of those 12 hours, a minimum of 3 of them must be Professionalism Hours which need to be accredited by the LSO. These Professionalism Hours consist of topics related to professional responsibility, ethics and/or practice management. The other 9 hours can be Substantive Hours (substantive or procedural law topics and/or related skills or relevant non-legal topics).

Substantive content is not subject to accreditation so our MLST programs that cover procedural law topics and/or related skills or relevant non-legal topics can be reported by lawyers and paralegals to fulfill their CDP requirements. For these programs, the MLST will post the number of Substantive Hours our programs qualify for on our marketing materials.

Please enter the applicable CPD Hours in the Law Society Portal.

New lawyers and paralegals in their first two full years of practising law or providing legal services must complete all 12 CPD hours as Professionalism Hours.

If you have any questions please contact the Law Society of Ontario at 416.947.3315 or 1.800.668.7380 ext. 3315 or visit their website.
