The Medico-Legal Society of Toronto was founded in 1950 by a group of doctors and lawyers to promote medical, legal and scientific knowledge, cooperation and understanding between the professions in the interest of justice and in the best interests of patients and clients.
In addition to other events, the Society holds four dinner meetings each year between September and June. Presentations on topics of interest include practical aspects of patient treatment and client representation and the policy issues of the day.

Membership in the Society is open to members of the medical and legal professions as well as others involved in medicine, law or science.
MLST has four membership levels REGULAR, YOUNG PRACTITIONER, STUDENT and SENIOR.

- individuals who are in the medical and legal profession.
- YOUNG PRACTITIONER: $50.00 for individuals who are less than ten years from the start of medical practice or call to the Bar.
- STUDENT: $45.00 must be currently attending a recognized law school, bar admission course, medical school; articling students, interns, or residents.
- SENIOR: $45.00 for individuals who are over 65 and fully retired.
