More than a membership

The Medico-Legal Society of Toronto is calling for your assistance to increase our membership, and especially for medical members. Our membership has increased in recent years; however, a majority of new members are from the legal field. The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted the MLST to expand in providing great economical virtual programs, some of which would be of interest to medical professionals (e.g. Law of Acute Care Medicine, CPSO Registrar, Cutting-Edge Medicolegal Cases). For a full listing our upcoming webinars, CLICK HERE

Some of our practices have a reference collection of physician CVs, and it is our hope that you will be able to assist with increasing our medical community membership. We would kindly ask that you compose a list of suitable physician expert witnesses that do not list MLST membership in their CV. Contact could be personally made by you as legal counsel, or alternatively delegated to a legal assistant to send a brief e-mail query to the physician inviting them to consider membership. Attached is a one-page document on the MLST which could be distributed as part of that outreach that is focussed on aspects of interest for a prospective medical MLST member.

We will be providing a gold, silver and bronze MLST New-Membership Award with this initiative to the top recruiters. Appreciation will range from a one-year free MLST membership to credit toward MLST programs and recognition of your accomplishment at the AGM.

To reduce overlap in contacting potential new members, we would ask that prior to your outreach, if possible, you reach out to Membership Committee members Andrea Lim and Maria Damiano with your proposed contact names.

We are, of course, always interested in acquiring new legal MLST members.

Thank you for assisting with our membership quest for the MLST at this important time.

Good afternoon,

I hope all MLST members are able to take some time off and relax a bit during this unique summer.

I encourage all members to register for our two excellent webinars in August:

The Law of Acute Care Medicine  on Tuesday, August 11th at 12:30-1:30pm.  Two past MLST Presidents, Michael Fraleigh and Dr. Laura Hawryluck, will discuss their new book and the unique challenges of acute care medicine during the COVID-19 pandemic.  The program is chaired by a third past President, Justice Michael McKelvey.  This star-studded line up will be a great learning experience.

How the CPSO has Adapted as a Result of COVID-19 on Wednesday, August 26th at 12:-1:30 pm.  The MLST is very pleased that the CPSO Registrar,
Dr. Nancy Whitmore has agreed to present for us in conversation with Valerie Wise.  This will be an excellent opportunity for physician members, in particular, to hear what’s new at the CPSO.

Please also consider taking advantage of our fall programs and the special registration price if you register for four webinars.

All webinars are eligible for up to 1 Substantive Hour LSO CPD Credits.

All webinars will take place on a secure Zoom portal, participant log-in instructions will be sent a day prior to the event.  For further information or to register call  Cristina at 416 494 1440 ext. 258 or email

I look forward to seeing you soon.
